customising keyboard shortcuts in Word

Word comes with a whole heap of keyboard shortcuts, but it also allows you to customise them for your own use.

Word 2003 for PC:
  1. From the Tools menu select Customize...
  2. Click on the Keyboard button on the Command tab
  3. Select the Category and Command from the lists
  4. This will display the existing keyboard shortcut (if any)
  5. Click in the Press new shortcut key: field
  6. Key your preferred shortcut
  7. If your shortcut is already assigned to another command, it will be displayed
  8. Select which template you want to save your changes (I recommend saving them to Normal.dot so the shortcut is available for all documents)
  9. Click on Assign

Word 2004 for Mac:

  1. From the Tools menu select Customize, then Customize Keyboard
  2. Select the Category and Command from the lists
  3. This will display the existing keyboard shortcut (if any)
  4. Click in the Press new shortcut key: field
  5. Key your preferred shortcut
  6. If your shortcut is already assigned to another command, it will be displayed
  7. Select which template you want to save your changes (I recommend saving them toNormal.dot so the shortcut is available for all documents)

install a custom invoice form

  1. If MYOB is running, please exit the program
  2. Save the formname.FRM file to the C:\myob16\Forms folder on your computer
  3. Open MYOB
  4. From the Sales command centre click on Print/Email Invoices
  5. Click on Advanced Filters
  6. Ensure Sale Type matches the type of Invoice Form you are installing, ie, if it is a Service Form, then select Service
  7. In the Selected Form for Sale field, select formname from the drop down box, then click on Use Form to return to the Advanced Filters dialog box
  8. Click on OK to return to the Review Sales Before Delivery dialog box then click on Cancel to return to the Sales Command Centre
  9. Your new Invoice Form is now set as your default form.

  1. When raising an Invoice, ensure you select the relevant layout, ie, Service, by clicking on Layout
  2. Select relevant layout, ie, Service, from the Select Layout dialog box then click OK
  3. You should now see formname as the default option when you click on the Print button at the bottom of the Sales - New dialog box

install a font

  1. Save the font file (.ttf) to your C:\Windows\Fonts folder
  2. Open the C:\Windows\Fonts folder (to do this: double-click the My Documents icon on your desktop, then type C:\Windows\Fonts in the Address bar, then press Enter)
  3. By viewing the contents of the Fonts folder you complete the installation process
  4. Close the Fonts folder

  1. Open Fonts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Fonts.
  2. Click File, and then click Install New Font. If you don’t see the File menu, press ALT.
  3. In the Add Fonts dialog box, under Drives, click the drive where the font that you want to install is located.
  4. Under Folders, double-click the folder containing the fonts that you want to add.
  5. Under List of fonts, click the font that you want to add, and then click Install.

  1. Save font files anywhere on your mac
  2. Open the files from Finder (this will open the font in Font Book)
  3. Click on Install

setting up your email accounts

To set up a POP account, open Outlook then follow these simple instructions:
  1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts

  2. Select Add a new e-mail account, then click Next

  3. Select POP3 for the e-mail server type, then click Next

  4. Complete the E-mail Accounts dialog box using the information sent to you by your email host

  5. Click Test Account Settings to verify that your account is working. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you will be prompted to supply or correct it. Be sure your computer is connected to the Internet.

To set up your email account in Mac Mail v2:
  1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences (⌘-,)

  2. Click on the Accounts tab

  3. Click on the '+' (bottom left corner)

  4. Enter your details in General Information then click Continue

  5. Enter your details in Incoming Mail Server Information using the information sent to you by your email host

  6. Click Continue to check your connection

  7. Enter your details in Outgoing Mail Server (this information is provided by your ISP, not your email host), then click Continue

  8. Enter your details in Outgoing Mail Security, then click Continue

  9. Review Account Summary details, then click Continue

  10. At Conclusion you can either Create Another Account or click on Done
